Case Studies  /  ME/CFS & Fatigue

ME/CFS · Fatigue · Gut Health · Mycotoxins · Nervous System

Over a decade of ME/CFS resolved:
MSQ 70 to 8

Severe fatigue, post-exertional malaise, brain fog and gut dysfunction that had resisted all previous interventions — resolved through a comprehensive root-cause programme addressing nervous system, gut, detoxification and energy metabolism together.

Presentation & Background

The client had been living with ME/CFS-type symptoms for over a decade — a fluctuating but never-resolving pattern that had accumulated through multiple stressors: immune activation, gut dysfunction and biochemical depletion. Despite periods of partial improvement, she remained vulnerable to flare-ups and was seeking stable, reliable energy rather than short-term symptom suppression.

By the time of assessment, the pattern was consistent with chronic stress physiology, impaired detoxification, and severely reduced cellular energy production.

Presenting Symptoms

  • Severe fatigue with post-exertional malaise (PEM)
  • Low stress tolerance and frequent energy crashes
  • Brain fog, poor concentration and visual disturbances
  • Chronic digestive issues — bloating and constipation
  • Anxiety and nervous system hyperreactivity
  • Hair loss, dizziness, tinnitus

Root-Cause Findings

Comprehensive functional testing explained why recovery had previously stalled: the system lacked the biochemical and neurological capacity to stabilise energy, regardless of lifestyle effort.

  • Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis: Slow metabolic pattern — high calcium, critically low magnesium and potassium. Severely reduced cellular energy production and detoxification capacity.
  • Mycotoxin exposure: Elevated mould-related metabolites on urine testing
  • SIBO: Markers consistent with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth
  • Gut immune activation: Elevated Secretory IgA — gut immune system in a sustained state of alert
  • Genetics: Variants affecting methylation, antioxidant capacity and detoxification pathways
  • Helicobacter pylori: Contributing to digestive and inflammatory load

The Programme

Nervous System Regulation

Daily nervous system retraining, breath regulation and CO₂ tolerance work, and structured pacing were introduced to calm threat signalling and restore autonomic balance — the essential foundation before any other intervention could hold.

Gut & Immune Support

The digestive environment was stabilised using targeted nutritional strategies and microbiome support to reduce immune activation and improve nutrient absorption. H. pylori and SIBO were addressed specifically.

Detoxification & Biochemical Support

Liver pathways, antioxidant systems and cellular detox capacity were all supported to reduce the burden from mycotoxin and metabolic toxins — removing the ongoing trigger that had been sustaining the inflammatory response.

Energy & Mitochondrial Support

Electrolytes and essential minerals, magnesium and mitochondrial cofactors, B-vitamins and methylation support, antioxidants and glutathione — all precisely targeted to the findings, building cellular energy capacity from the ground up.

Biohacks & Lifestyle

  • Nervous system retraining practices and breathwork
  • Gentle thermal therapies and cold exposure within tolerance
  • Structured rest-activity pacing to build capacity without triggering crashes
  • Sleep optimisation and circadian support
  • Grounding and environmental load reduction

Results After One Year

  • MSQ score reduced from 70 to 8
  • Stable daily energy without afternoon crashes
  • Clearer thinking and resolved brain fog
  • Normalised digestion and bowel function
  • Dramatically reduced post-exertional malaise
  • Lower anxiety and improved sleep quality

Critically, gains were consistent and repeatable — not dependent on constant rest or avoidance. The system had been genuinely restored, not just managed.
